Memorial Benches

Memorial Bench Program

Donate a bench in memory of a loved one. An individual, family, company, group or organization may make a donation for the purchase a bench for placement in the Village in honour, recognition or memory of a loved one.

The benches will become the property of the Village and staff will work with sponsors to determine a suitable location for the bench and plaque wording.  Plaques are 3” x 7” and can have a maximum of 3 lines with 32 characters per line (including spaces). Plaques will remain on the benches for a minimum of 10 years, after which donors will be given the opportunity to renew tenure on their bench location or have the plaques returned to them.  Further details are outlined in the Memorial Recognition Policy 1.30.

The Memorial Benches will be the same style as the ones in our streetscape on Esplanade Avenue and will be made of a low maintenance recycled material that has the appearance of natural wood.  It does not fade or require refinishing.

Process

Prospective donors must submit an application. Applications can be downloaded picked up at the Village Office. Full payment is due upon submission of the application.

Village staff will schedule an appointment with the prospective donor to view the location, plaque wording, and do a site visit if necessary. Benches are installed during the months of October to April, depending on weather and staff availability.

The cost of a memorial bench on an existing concrete pad is $3,000.

Additional plaques are $275.
