Harrison Lake is home for many migratory birds. Canadian Geese inhabit the lake and surrounding area, including the water and grassy areas of the shoreline. They feed even more intensively right before they fly north after the winter, storing energy for an active breeding period and preparing for a lack of food in the spring. Canada geese can also be found grazing on lawns, in parks and on golf courses. These birds are protected in Canada under the Migratory Birds Convention Act and Regulations.
Daily maintenance is conducted by public works staff throughout the beachfront, including grass and sand areas of the lake. This maintenance includes the collection of goose feces using a Goose Manure Sweeper which is designed to rake and sift the sand of fecal matter for disposal.
There are several private campgrounds within the community and area that provide recreational vehicle, tenting and trailer campsites. There is also a Provincial Park north of Harrison Hot Springs called Sasquatch Provincial Park (Greenpoint) that provides a day use picnic area. Located on the east side of Harrison Lake approximately 15 minutes drive, Hicks and Deer Lake campgrounds offer many activities such as camping, hiking, fishing, and picnicking. For more information on the Provincial Park please contact Discover Camping.
Harrison Lake contains a great variety of fish, however Cutthroat and Rainbows reaching up to 3 lbs. are the most important to fishermen. Trolling is best suited for this large, deep lake with the best fishing areas being at the mouths of feeder creeks, coves and estuaries. Boaters must be careful because winds can build up large swells on the lake.
Harrison River, a tributary of the Fraser River, supports a number of fish species, including salmon and rainbow trout. Fraser River is a world renowned salmon and sturgeon fishery.
There are also many lakes and other water bodies in the area and region that support various species of fish. To learn more about fishing in British Columbia, please contact the Ministry of Environment.
If you are an avid walker or hiker and like the environment and outdoor activities, the community has many natural and maintained trails to offer. Enjoy a peaceful stroll around the lake lagoon, or take your backpack and hike the natural forested areas surrounding the Village.
