
Council Catch-Up: February 3, 2025 Regular Council Meeting

- The Village will be increasing its annual funding to the Agassiz Harrison Historical Society by $2,000.
- Council discussed BC Timber Sales Operating Plan #643-9 and will be forwarding additional questions to BCTS.
- The Plaza lights and Electronic Message Board will be turned blue in honour of Girl Guides Canada’s World Thinking Day on February 22, 2025! For more information on World Thinking Day, visit www.girlguides.ca.
- Council adopted the 2025-2026 Strategic Plan. View the plan here.
- 2024 was a busy year for bylaw enforcement in the Village, with increases in Highway and Traffic and Property Maintenance related notices issued. If you notice a bylaw concern in the Village, please report it through the bylaw complaint portal.
- Miami River Bridge Updates: Jakes Construction Ltd. will be completing the utility relocation, and the bridge abutment repair work will be done by West Shore Constructors Ltd. The Village will post bridge closure notification and detour information once project timelines are confirmed. For more information and updates on the project visit Get Into It Harrison.
- The Village will be hosting an Environmental Open House in the next few months, keep your eyes on our website and social media for more details!
- 3 new bylaws were adopted:
- An amendment to the Indemnification Bylaw to clarify that the Village will not indemnify Municipal Officials for willful misconduct
- A bylaw to repeal an outdated bylaw from 2007 regarding littering, dumping and snow removal (which are all now dealt with by various other bylaws)
- A new Noise Bylaw with updated language
- Are you passionate about civic engagement? Looking to join a Council Committee or Commission? The Village is now seeking expressions of interest for the Age-Friendly Committee and the Advisory Planning Commission. Interested applicants are welcome to complete their application form, which can be found here or at the Village Office.
- New Business: The Village will be looking into a location for a rainbow crosswalk, making amendments to its Disposal of Surplus Items and Equipment Policy and forwarding a resolution regarding using Alertable to communicate emergency room closures for support from other lower mainland municipalities.
