2026 General Local Election

Thinking of running for local office? A Candidate Information Session will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Village Office Council Chambers, 495 Hot Springs Road.

This session will cover topics such as:

• Candidate, nominator and elector eligibility
• Nomination documents 
• Election signs
• Important dates
• Voting opportunities
• Scrutineers
• Council meeting schedule, time commitment, external committees and liaisons 

This session is recommended for prospective candidates thinking of running for a Village Council position. Election staff will be there to answer any questions you might have.

Nomination packages will be available starting Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
Nomination period begins at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 and ends on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.

The declaration of candidates will take place on September 11, 2026.  Names of the candidates running for the offices of Mayor and Councillor will be posted in accordance with the Local Government Act.

Elections BC is responsible for advertising rules, campaign financing rules, registration of elector organizations (parties), and third party advertising sponsor registration.

If you live within the Village of Harrison Hot Springs municipal boundaries, you are a resident elector.  To qualify you must:

• be 18 years of age or older on general voting day; and
• be a Canadian citizen; and
• be a resident of British Columbia  at least  for six (6) months immediately before the day of registration; and
• be a resident of the municipality; and
• are not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election and not otherwise disqualified by law.

If you own property within the Village of Harrison Hot Springs but live outside the municipal boundaries, you are a non-resident elector.  To qualify you must:

• not entitled to register as a resident elector;
• be 18 years of age or older on general voting day; and
• be a Canadian citizen; and
• be a resident of British Columbia for at least six (6) months immediately before the day of registration; and
• be a registered owner of real property in the Village of Harrison Hot Springs for at least thirty (30) days immediately before the day of registration; and
• the only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
• not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election and not otherwise disqualified bylaw; and
• if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.

Qualified electors are required to produce two pieces of identification to prove both residency and identity (at least one must provide a signature).

Acceptable forms of identification include:

• BC Driver’s Licence
• Identification Card issued by the government of BC or Canada
• Photo BC Services Card
• Non-photo BC Services Card
• A document issued by the government of Canada that certifies registration under the Indian Act
• A citizenship card issued by Métis Nation British Columbia
• Vehicle insurance papers
• BC Care Card
• Provincial Social Assistance FORM SDES8
• Social Insurance Number
• Citizenship Card issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada
• Property Tax Notice
• Credit card or debit card
• Utility bill such as coaxial cable services, electricity, gas, telephone services, water, or public utilities 

If an elector does not have two pieces of identification, they may produce at least 2 documents that provide evidence of the applicant's identity, at least one of which must contain the applicant's signature, and make a solemn declaration as to the applicant's place of residence.

The Village of Harrison Hot Springs holds one Advance Voting Opportunity as required by the Local Government Act. The Advance Voting Day will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall, 290 Esplanade Avenue.

General Voting Day will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall, 290 Esplanade Avenue.

Mail ballot voting is available for all electors of the Village of Harrison Hot Springs.

You are allowed to vote if you are:

• a resident elector (ie.  you live in the Village of Harrison Hot Springs), OR
• a non-resident property elector (ie. you live elsewhere in BC but own property in the Village of Harrison Hot Springs)

• 18 years of age or older on general voting day October 17, 2026;
• Canadian citizen;
• a resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration;
• resident on the day of registration OR registered owner of real property in the Village of Harrison Hot Springs for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
• not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

Resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.

Non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from a majority of the registered owners stating that the elector is an owner of the property, and is designated as the Non-Resident (Property) Elector for that property.

You must register at the time of filling in your ballot.

If you wish to vote by mail and in order to obtain a mail ballot, you must submit an application form with the information as listed below by 4:00 pm on Friday, October 9, 2026. Mail ballot application forms can be requested starting at 9:00 a.m. on September 1, 2026.
