Starting today, Thursday, April 4, 2024 fuel management will be occurring at the greenspace adjacent to the Fire Hall, on the north side bordering the elementary school. Fuel management is the planned manipulation and/or reduction of living and dead forest fuels for land management objectives, in this case wildfire risk reduction.
Ground and surface fuels will be removed, and trees will be thinned to reduce ladder fuels. This work is being done to increase the resiliency of one of the Village’s Critical Infrastructure components - the Fire Hall which also houses the Village’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).
This project is being conducted proactively utilizing existing budget, while the Village awaits fuel prescriptions for Spirit Trail and the Water Tower sites previously identified as priority fuel management areas by Council.
